Consider, for a moment, the example of the halo around the edge of the clouds I wrote about in January (see Insomnia Page). The pleasure the clouds caused in me – the pleasurable event – the para:passional event – spawned a need for an understanding [appreciation within a context or framework/structure] that gave rise to an affection for any knowledge related to the sky and its formation [atmospheric sciences].  This quest structured the way I would see and contextualize such events, through language, at future times, such that, when reflecting on the event, I placed the word “cumulonimbus” in the place of a more original, first impression – made when I didn’t know what the word “cumulonimbus” meant.  The event itself was the cause of its own rewriting in time such that it can be said:

The para:passional event, or the love of the object, will have been the cause of its dis memberment.

The Parapassional is similar to the Paradox, or the Paraphrase, which came up today also…the conditions leading to a parapassional event are:  two objects, One taking note of the Other because it causes something to stir in the observer : an evocation of love, pleasure, pain, horror : and by this effect, the first makes note of the self through that object. There is a projection of self, and a projection through time. This needs to be worked out a bit better, for, para / passional, implies, a parallel suffering, or a parallel relationship between objects of desire…perhaps it should be explored in relation to the para noiac….hmm.

…until then…

babel

A monstrous aberration leads men to believe that language was born to facilitate their mutual relations.  To this utilitarian end they compile dictionaries, where words are catalogued, and endowed with a well defined meaning (so they think) based on custom and etymology.  But etymology is a perfectly vain science, giving no information at all about the real meaning of a word, that is, its particular personal signification that everyone must assign to it according to the convenience of his mind.  As for custom, it is superfluous to mention that it is the lowest criterion to which we may refer.  The usual meaning and the etymological meaning of a word cannot teach us anything about ourselves, since they represent the collective fraction of the language, which has been made for everybody and not for each of us.  By dissecting words we love, without the wish to follow etymology or accepted signification, we discover their most hidden virtues and the secret associated sounds, shapes and ideas.  The language changes into oracle and we have here a thread (however tenuous it be) to guide us inside the Babel of our mind.

Profundo / profundere: to Pour Forth, shed, to cause to flow….to release, discharge…

Profligo: to Strike to the ground, debase, ruin…

What will it ever mean,

Blasphemous chants?

A perfectly clear day, ensconsed in a ruminatory pain,

despite all wantings of a wash – - out.

Critical recollection of abusive self-characterization,

if only she would allow herself to be entertained once in a while,

rather than worrying that she is not performing her function.

That is the great folly of time – - that it pretends to hold a truth that is outside of the self – -

to be given like an award once she has earned it rightfully, like a knight after a successful quest.

The Golden Hour never arrives and the ribbon slips through her clasp again and again until

those little paws bleed.  If only then…what would it take to be satisfied otherwise?
